Seasons: Summer is hot in Lahaina and Kihei and cooler in Haiku, Hana and upcountry. Winters are warm to visitors but cool to locals. The locals hate slightly non-hot weather. Hana is always cooler and more rugged. Kihei is very dry and warm, only 4 inches of rain in an entire year. So you are almost guaranteed to have a good tan relaxing on the beach in Kihei or similar with Lahaina. In one day you can venture to and from Kihei or Lahaina to Hana and the tropical rainforest complete with waterfalls and walk in a mist of light rain on a hot day, though a bamboo forest.

Or go upcountry to Haleakala and see breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. 
Some hardy visitors and locals 'hike the crater' which takes about 2 nights, 3 days. Not a drop of water in sight, looks like you are hiking on Mars.
 

Haleakala National Park – The summit of the 10,023-foot dormant volcano offers stunning views of the surrounding islands and valleys.

Lahaina – Once the capital of the Hawaiian kingdom and is now home to art galleries, historical sites, and great restaurants and great surf in the summer months.

Iao Valley – The lush valley is home to the distinctive Iao Needle, a 1,200-foot-tall rock formation.

Ka'anapali Beach – One of Maui's most popular beaches, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and stand-up paddleboarding. (pronounced Conna Paulie) 

Hana – A picturesque village with incredible waterfalls, lush rainforest, and stunning beaches.

Molokini Crater – A famous crescent-shaped offshore volcano with amazing snorkeling and scuba diving.

Road to Hana – This scenic drive takes you through lush rainforest, past dramatic waterfalls, and to many of Maui's most stunning attractions. Along the way you will cross 59 one lane bridges and corners with steep drop offs. Take your time and be careful and you will enjoy the drive. Don't forget to visit Seven Sacred Pools.

Makena Beach - A fifteen minute drive south from Kihei, Makena has a long pristine beach which is a local spot for bodysurfing during the summer months. Giant shore break waves are typical during the summer. Very little to see snorkelling there, some reef fish on the north point. If you climb the north hill you will arrive at 'Little Beach' a place famous in the 70's and 80's for nude sunbathing. 

Wai'anapanapa State Park – This park offers a black sand beach, a freshwater cave, and opportunities for hiking and camping.
